Augustus Makes Stability Personal
Augustus understood that civil conflict could return through households as easily as through armies. He used marriages, succession plans, patronage, and reconciliation to bind relatives and former rivals into a workable order, though his family policies were never free from tension. Rome’s public peace depended partly on managing private loyalties. The lot takes the constructive side of that effort: refusing rumor, maintaining trustworthy bonds, and keeping the household steady creates the foundation from which wider prosperity can grow.
