Andromache Watches Hector Depart
Cherish the moment while the flowers are in bloom and the moon is full, for fortune can change in an instant.
Prepare your heart for the coming winter, keep what is precious close, and gather the strength to endure the cold ahead
Joy is a gift of today; wisdom prepares for tomorrow's storm.
Hector’s Farewell
In the Iliad, Andromache meets Hector near the walls of Troy and begs him not to return to battle. She has already lost her birth family and knows that his death would leave her and their child defenseless. Hector shares her fear but believes honor and duty require him to fight. Their farewell is tender because neither love nor courage can prevent the approaching disaster. The scene teaches the fragility of present happiness and the wisdom of cherishing what cannot be guaranteed tomorrow.
Meaning of This Lot
This lot expresses its lesson through Andromache Watches Hector Depart. Cherish the moment while the flowers are in bloom and the moon is full, for fortune can change in an instant. Its practical counsel is therefore specific: career: Progress is restricted; avoid bold moves.; wealth: Finances are weak; avoid speculation.; love: Love is blocked; do not force an attachment.; health: Health is vulnerable; reduce strain.; relationships: Support is limited; speak carefully.; travel: Avoid travel; danger or serious disruption is indicated. The overall judgment is bad fortune, so act in proportion to that sign—welcome openings where they are offered, but respect every warning contained in the verses.
