Octavian and Antony Stand Together
A smiling face may hide a shifting heart; what seems to join may one day tear apart.
Trust lightly given may turn to sharpest pain; kind words today may bring you loss tomorrow.
The road ahead is filled with twists and thorns; only the seasoned learn how hard it's worn.
Do not be proud, nor let your guard be down; stay humble now, or fall when fortune frowns.
Endure with care, and judge with steady eyes; those who rush in may one day weep and sigh.
When joy comes too soon, be twice as wise; learn from the past, or pay with bitter sighs.
An Alliance Built to Break
Octavian and Mark Antony joined Lepidus in the Second Triumvirate after Caesar’s assassination. Together they defeated Caesar’s killers and divided control of the Roman world, but their partnership depended on fear, expedience, and competing ambitions. Suspicion deepened as Antony remained in the east with Cleopatra and Octavian consolidated Italy. Propaganda became war, ending with Antony’s defeat at Actium. Their temporary unity warns that a smiling alliance without durable trust may merely postpone conflict; apparent strength can hide the fault line of a future rupture.
