Columbus Seeks a Patron
You may travel in every direction and still find no open door.
Do not lose sight of your vision, even when support is hard to find.
Endure the present difficulties, for when the right time comes, a helping hand will appear.
Then your name will be written high.
Great journeys often begin in solitude and uncertainty.
Columbus Searches for Backing
Christopher Columbus spent years presenting his westward project to courts and advisers. Portuguese and Spanish authorities rejected or delayed him, questioning distance, cost, and calculation. He continued to seek patrons until Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon approved the voyage of 1492. The consequences of that voyage were immense and often devastating for Indigenous peoples, but the episode itself illustrates persistence through closed doors and the power—and responsibility—that arrives when support is finally granted.
Meaning of This Lot
This lot expresses its lesson through Columbus Seeks a Patron. You may travel in every direction and still find no open door. Do not lose sight of your vision, even when support is hard to find.
Its practical counsel is therefore specific: career: Steady work brings gradual progress.; wealth: Moderate gains through prudent choices.; love: A favorable bond deepens with trust.; health: Condition is stable with sensible care.; relationships: Powerful support and enduring trust surround you.; travel: Plans are uncertain; prepare alternatives. The overall judgment is good fortune, so act in proportion to that sign—welcome openings where they are offered, but respect every warning contained in the verses.
